About Us
ESR began as an idea to create a more equitable and culturally sensitive public school system in the USA which was racially segregated until the 1954 Brown decision.  Since its inception the philosophy of ESR has focused on social justice and equal opportunity for all students in our public schools.

ESR’s mission is to find innovative ways to improve educational achievement and opportunities not only for children of color but for all children by focusing on developing teaching strategies and techniques that will assist teachers and educators to be more effectively in working with culturally diverse student populations. This requires that educators acknowledge that cultural competency and cultural awareness are critical elements and highly significant variables in the definition of education at all levels of the teaching process.

We at ESR believe that all children can learn regardless of cultural background if given the same opportunities and shown the same concern and respect by culturally competent teachers and educators committed to providing the nation’s children with enriched, positive learning experiences that facilitates academic achievement. The problem the public school system faces is not a lack of resources. The United States spends more per capita on educating each student than any other nation in the world, yet the USA continues to rank far below many smaller, developing nations in the area of academic achievement.  The problem is that as a nation we have ignored the significance of multiculturalism.

A national dialogue is needed that openly and honestly addresses the failure of the public school system to meet the needs of all its students.  This failure has resulted in a dysfunctional educational system which has a precarious impact on the entire nation. The goal of ESR has always been to improve education in our nation’s schools.  This was the goal of ESR almost forty years ago and our commitment remains the same.

To accomplish its goals, ESR offers a combination of teacher training workshops, colloquiums, seminars and discussion groups tailored to the problems and concerns identified by the school districts seeking our services. These training packages are designed to address a broad assortment of problems that stands in the way of academic achievement of students whether it is sensitivity training or curriculum and instruction assessment.
